The Get Away was my latest instalment into creating content, I wanted to create a short story but could lead into another. The idea came from watching the show Stranger Things on Netflix, I love 80's music and the whole 80's vibe so I decided to create a track and story for this.
I started with a simple story board, this shows the scenes needed for the story to come together (pic below).
I knew what the story was going to be so then I decided to create a track, this was done by finding the correct sounds that was used in the 80's, For the drums I used the EMU-12 vintage drum kit, added a bit of processing to make it more gritty, for the pad sound I used two synths 1st was a heavenly pad sound created using U-HE DIVA, and the other was used using Xfer Serum. The arpeggio you hear was created using a external synth Nord Lead A1 and drenching it in reverb, the bass was made using serum and adding notes every 16th of the bar, the lead was made using the Nord Lead A1 too, I added some FX to the mix but as it is these are the main elements to the track and audio examples are below of each part.
With each element in place I then created a video edit and a single edit of the track as shown below, (Video edit left - Single Edit Right)
With the track in place I then went about researching a retro 80's style vibe and decided that the game I used to play when I was a kid was just what I wanted, I started searching for ideas on what to use and then I created images that I could use in the scenes. I used a colour scheme using adobe colour themes that created the different shades for the mountains, and created the sun and background with colours that suited the scene, this was inspired from pictures I found on the web. The one example below shows scene 2 of the video.
With all the artwork for the scenes done, it was time to bring them to life, I used After Effects to do this and created the videos as shown below.
This was then all put together using premier pro and adding the title and other effects to make it as a retro 8 bit 80's production with soundtrack to suit.
Below shows a screenshot of the premier pro edit and final touches.
I really enjoyed doing this project and I am really pleased with how it turned out, from the design work to the music it all fitted together nicely. The track takes me back and reminds me of when I went on a short trip, I was driving down the coastal road from San Francisco to LA, it reminded me of that drive when the sun was setting and all you could see was clear roads and sea.
The finished product is below for your viewing, I hope you have enjoyed how I made this and I am in production for the next instalment, but this time It is going to be more story driven along with another sound track and maybe some surprises thrown into the video.
